Adolescent Therapy

Adolescent therapy can provide crucial opportunities for learning conflict resolution during a delicate stage of life. Mindful of all the changes adolescents are experiencing in their minds, bodies,  cognitions, emotions and personality, I appreciate the importance of teens successfully managing this period of growth and learning. This is done by learning and practicing new skills, taking risks in new roles, receiving feedback constructively, and welcoming new opportunities. I help teens examine how they think about particular issues and how they can respond in ways which reflect their growing wisdom.

Typical reasons for adolescents to see a marriage and family therapist include:

  • Anxiety (excessive worry, difficulty sleeping)

  • Depression (apathy, confusion, lacking motivation and self-esteem)

  • Dating (boundaries, sex education)

  • Drug use and experimentation

  • Eating disorders

  • Grief, loss or bereavement

  • Identity development (working through issues of sexuality, racial identity, and purpose)

  • Peer pressure

  • Premarital sex

  • School performance

  • Social Isolation

What does adolescent therapy

look like?

Visual aids and interactive worksheets are integrated into adolescent therapy sessions to enable teens to engage in deeper self-exploration.

Can you trace your feeling to a core
emotion?
Which mental fallacies do you engage
in the most?
Can you distinguish your reasonable mind
from your emotional mind?
How do you express yourself?
What do your sunglasses tell you about the way you see
the world?
